England vs New Zealand delivered fireworks in the second men’s T20I as Phil Salt and Harry Brook put on a thrilling 129-run stand, leading England to a dominant 65-run victory at Hagley Oval. But it wasn’t just the batting that stole the show — Adil Rashid’s best wickets in the match sealed New Zealand’s fate as they collapsed for 171 in reply to England’s 236-4.

This match not only set a new record for the highest total on this ground but also reignited the Salt-Brook batting chemistry that fans have come to admire.

Phil Salt and Harry Brook Partnership Powers England

England’s top-order lit up the Christchurch sky with boundary-laced brilliance. Phil Salt, who smashed 85 off 51, set the tone early, but it was the explosive Phil Salt and Harry Brook partnership that proved to be the game-changer.

Brook joined Salt when England were already flying, but what followed was relentless. Brook made 78 from just 35 balls — including three massive sixes, one of which landed in the car park. His performance had Salt watching in awe from the other end.

“When someone plays like that, my job’s easy — get them on strike,” said Salt, adding, “100 times out of 100 I’d like to be at the other end watching that again. It’s always team first.”

Both batters were eventually dismissed in the 18th over by Kyle Jamieson, but not before England had done enough damage. Sam Curran and Tom Banton added further insult to injury, lifting the total past 230.

Adil Rashid Best Wickets in the Match

When it came time to defend, England’s bowlers stepped up — especially their spinners. Adil Rashid’s best wickets in the match came during a devastating spell that shattered New Zealand’s hopes. He removed key middle-order players, finishing with four wickets and earning widespread praise.

New Zealand started their chase aggressively, but early wickets — including two in one over — tilted the momentum firmly in England’s favor. Liam Dawson joined Rashid in choking the run flow, while Jordan Cox impressed with three sharp catches in the field.

By the time Neesham and Santner launched a late resistance with a quickfire 57-run stand off just 23 balls, the match had already slipped beyond New Zealand’s reach.

A Redemption Match After Washout Opener

The match felt like a rewrite of the first game, which was abandoned due to rain. With unchanged squads and similar conditions, fans in Christchurch finally saw what could have been — and England delivered emphatically.

The win gives England a strong lead in the series and highlights their depth in both batting and spin. From Adil Rashid’s best wickets in the match to the electric Phil Salt and Harry Brook partnership, this was a performance of complete dominance.
