The Select Committee on Public Infrastructure and the Minister in the Presidency are set to conduct a crucial oversight visit in Gauteng, assessing how infrastructure investment supports South Africa’s ongoing economic recovery plans. This visit, taking place over two days, is a strategic move under Parliament’s Oversight Priority Plan, which emphasizes the importance of parliament oversight on infrastructure development as a catalyst for national growth.

Oversight Role in Economic Development Takes Center Stage

The committee will visit key state-owned enterprises that are central to infrastructure-led economic reconstruction, reflecting Parliament’s intent to ensure tangible results, not just policy talk.

“This visit, which coincides with Transport Month, is about seeing the practical rollout of infrastructure projects. It’s our way of ensuring that infrastructure-led growth is not merely debated, but implemented effectively,” said Mr. Rikus Badenhorst, Chairperson of the Select Committee.

Committee members will engage with:

  • Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS): To evaluate the reliability of airport communication, navigation, and surveillance systems.
  • Gibela Train Manufacturing Facility: To get updates on production output and how localization targets are being met.
  • Salvokop Government Precinct Programme: A key development intended to support service delivery and economic activity.

This is part of parliament oversight economic recovery plans to stimulate job creation and fight poverty through real-world project implementation.
