Two brothers, Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande, have officially been charged with the murder of award-winning South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, following their extradition from Eswatini. The development marks a major step forward in the ongoing South African rapper death investigation that has gripped the nation since 2023.

Brothers Charged After Extradition

The Ndimande brothers’ return to South Africa follows the collapse of a prolonged legal attempt to block their extradition. They face multiple charges including murder, attempted murder, and unlawful possession of firearms.

Authorities confirmed that the brothers would appear alongside five other suspects already in custody once the trial begins. According to police, one of the accused “may have pulled the trigger,” making the Durban rapper homicide case one of the most closely followed in recent years.

Remembering AKA: A Rap Icon Gone Too Soon

Kiernan Forbes, known worldwide by his stage name AKA, was tragically gunned down outside a Durban restaurant in 2023. His close friend, celebrity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, also lost his life in the attack, which police described as a coordinated hit.

AKA had been in Durban to perform during his birthday celebrations. Although authorities believe Forbes was the intended target, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

South African Rapper Case Updates

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe told broadcaster eNCA that one of the Ndimande brothers was “possibly one of those who pulled the trigger and shot AKA.” The suspects arrived at Durban’s international airport under heavy security, their hands and feet shackled.

AKA’s father, Tony Forbes, expressed relief that the case is moving forward but stated that he still seeks answers about who ordered the hit. His mother, Lynn Forbes, shared a heartbreaking message on Instagram:

“This South African air is suffocating today… I cannot breathe.”

AKA, who died at the age of 34, was one of South Africa’s most celebrated hip-hop artists, known for hit albums and collaborations with stars like Nigeria’s Burna Boy.

Upcoming Court Hearings

The South African rapper case updates indicate that the Ndimande brothers will return to court on November 25 for a bail hearing. Meanwhile, proceedings against their co-accused will resume next year in the High Court of Durban.
