Emirates Skywards is taking its loyalty programme beyond air travel with the launch of Skywards Rail, a new initiative that allows members to seamlessly convert their Miles into train journeys across Europe.
Here is a breakdown of the new service, its features, and how it adds value to the Emirates Skywards ecosystem.
Unprecedented Access to European Rail
The newly launched platform opens up access to more than 12,000 rail destinations spanning 12 European countries. By partnering with over 40 major railway operators—including Eurostar, Deutsche Bahn (DB), SNCF, Trenitalia, Renfe, and ÖBB—Emirates is giving travelers unparalleled connectivity. The network also covers extensive UK services such as the Heathrow Express, Gatwick Express, Thameslink, Great Western Railway, and ScotRail.
How Skywards Rail Works
Booking train tickets using Miles has been streamlined through a dedicated portal, which is accessible via desktop and mobile devices in five different languages.
- Flexible Payments: Members can opt to pay entirely with Skywards Miles or use a combination of Cash + Miles (starting from a minimum of 1 Mile).
- Share with Loved Ones: Miles are not restricted to the account holder; they can be used to purchase rail tickets for family and friends.
- Seamless Delivery: Once booked, e-tickets are conveniently delivered directly via email as a PDF attachment.
Popular Routes and Exceptional Value
Prices are dynamic, but Emirates has highlighted several popular intercity and airport transfer routes that showcase the value of the new redemption option:
- Berlin to Frankfurt: Starting from 4,100 Skywards Miles.
- Heathrow Express: Starting from 4,700 Skywards Miles.
- Barcelona to Madrid: Starting from 5,400 Skywards Miles.
- Rome to Milan: Starting from 8,100 Skywards Miles.
- London to Paris: Starting from 9,400 Skywards Miles.
A Milestone for the Loyalty Programme
Dr. Nejib Ben Khedher, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates Skywards, highlighted the strategic shift: “Our members are looking for more flexible ways to use their Skywards Miles, and Skywards Rail is another step in expanding the programme beyond air travel”. He noted that the initiative gives members the freedom to seamlessly connect onwards from an Emirates or flydubai flight or simply discover somewhere new. For travelers tracking African business analysis and global connectivity, this expansion offers a significant benefit for seamless, multi-modal travel.
This expansion aligns with the massive growth of Emirates Skywards. Having recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, the multi-award-winning loyalty programme now boasts over 39 million members across 190 countries, drawing in more than 78,000 new enrollments every single week.
