The 2025 MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power conference in Dakar, Senegal, will spotlight energy transition planning West Africa, renewable hydrogen Africa investments, and strategies for the transition to green energy Africa. The dedicated session, Green Hydrogen: Advancing Africa’s Advantage and the Rise of Regional Production Alliances, will bring together key industry leaders including Taghiya Abeidarrahmane, Director of Low Carbon Hydrogen, Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, Mauritania; Thierry Lepercq, Founder and CEO, Hydeal Ambition; Prof. Dr. Stefan Liebing, CEO, Conjuncta GmbH; and Mike Scholey, CEO, CWP Global.
Green Hydrogen Driving Regional Energy Transformation
Mauritania is emerging as a hub for green hydrogen in the MSGBC region, leveraging solar and wind resources for industrial-scale production. CWP’s 30 GW Aman Project, with completed geological, hydrogeological, and seabed studies, aims to produce up to 1.7 million tons of green hydrogen and 10 million tons of green ammonia annually. Similarly, Danish company GreenGo Energy signed a framework agreement with the Mauritanian government to develop the 6 GW Megaton Moon Project. By 2029, the initial phase will deliver 500 MW electrolysis, 600 MW onshore wind, and 600 MWp solar PV, producing roughly 339 000 tons of green ammonia each year.
These initiatives reflect significant renewable hydrogen Africa investments, advancing Africa’s capacity to integrate clean energy into industrial processes and regional export networks.
Policy and Infrastructure Supporting Green Energy
Under Mauritania’s Green Hydrogen Code and roadmap, the country is building institutional, fiscal, and customs frameworks to enable large-scale hydrogen projects. Plans include shipping hydrogen as ammonia, producing green iron with domestic mining coalitions, and developing subsea export pipelines to Europe. The panel will examine how these regulatory and infrastructure mechanisms align with production projects across the MSGBC region, facilitating a successful transition to green energy Africa.

Scaling Up Green Hydrogen Projects
A 10 GW initiative by Conjuncta, Masdar, and Infinity is currently in the feasibility phase, targeting 8 million tons of green hydrogen annually. Phase 1—a 400 MW installation—is scheduled for 2028. Panelists will discuss project structuring, financing, and alignment with national strategies, while exploring emerging regional alliances that are shaping distribution networks and advancing energy transition planning West Africa.
“This session demonstrates how Africa’s green hydrogen ambitions are becoming tangible projects,” said Sandra Jeque, Events and Project Director, Energy Capital & Power. “MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 connects international investors, regional developers, and policymakers to scale production and foster regional collaboration.”
