Advancing Water Security in South Africa Through Sustainable Water Reuse Practices

Water scarcity continues to be one of South Africa’s most pressing challenges, threatening agriculture, manufacturing, and mining alike. To address this, the Water Security Africa 2025 summit in Johannesburg is bringing together industry leaders to explore sustainable water reuse practices and innovative water reuse technologies that can secure the nation’s water future.

Empowering Industries for Long-Term Water Security

Scheduled for 4–5 November 2025 at The Maslow Hotel in Sandton, the event will feature interactive sessions and expert panels designed to help business leaders implement strategies for water security in South Africa. Participants from agriculture, food and beverage, hospitality, and manufacturing sectors will gain actionable insights to future-proof their operations against increasing water risks.

A highlight session titled “Do We Really Have a Water Problem at Scale?” will include top executives discussing infrastructure reform, licensing barriers, and balancing ESG priorities with industrial needs. The event’s agenda spans two key themes:

From Wastewater to Wealth: Circular Water Solutions

Attendees will explore practical case studies under the theme “Securing Operations Across Sectors – From Field to Factory.” This includes Coca-Cola Beverages Africa’s pioneering circular reuse innovation and insights from NEPAD on regional water management. Another session, “From Pit to Plant,” will focus on mining and manufacturing, featuring strategies for pollutant reduction and sustainable water reuse practices by companies like Harmony Gold and Glencore.

The wrap-up session, “Wastewater to Wealth Water,” will present actionable roadmaps for transforming wastewater into valuable resources through advanced water reuse technologies.

Financing and Innovation for Water Reuse Technologies

One of the most anticipated discussions, “Banking on Water Security,” will dive into financing models for large-scale water efficiency and reuse projects. With the growing adoption of digital monitoring and AI-powered solutions, experts will share how data-driven approaches enhance water security in South Africa while promoting circular resource use.
