Editorial Standards

Afrikeye is committed to journalism that is accurate, fair, independent and accountable. These standards guide our reporting, editing and publishing decisions across news, analysis and opinion.

Accuracy and Verification

We aim to verify material facts before publication and rely on credible, relevant sources. Names, dates, figures, quotations and locations should be checked wherever reasonably possible. Developing stories may change as new information becomes available, and reports should be updated when necessary.

Sources and Attribution

Information obtained from other publishers, official statements, public records, research or specialist sources should be clearly attributed. Anonymous sources should be used only when the information serves the public interest and the source may face a genuine risk from being identified.

Fairness and Right of Reply

Our reporting should represent significant viewpoints fairly and provide relevant context. People or organisations facing serious criticism should ordinarily be given a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication.

Independence and Conflicts of Interest

Editorial decisions should not be improperly influenced by advertisers, sponsors, political interests or personal relationships. Commercial partnerships and sponsored material must be clearly identified. Contributors should disclose conflicts that could reasonably affect their work.

Opinion and Analysis

Opinion articles express the views of their authors and should be clearly distinguishable from factual news reporting. Analysis may interpret events but must remain grounded in evidence and accurately represent known facts.

Artificial Intelligence and Automation

Afrikeye may use digital and AI-assisted tools to support research, transcription, translation, drafting or workflow efficiency. Editorial responsibility remains with Afrikeye. Material facts, quotations and claims should be reviewed before publication, and automation must not be treated as a substitute for sound editorial judgement.

Privacy, Dignity and Harm

We balance the public interest with individual privacy and dignity. Extra care should be taken when reporting on children, victims, vulnerable people, grief, trauma or graphic events. Discriminatory or dehumanising language has no place in our journalism.

Corrections and Accountability

Material errors should be corrected promptly and transparently. Readers can review our Corrections Policy or contact the editorial team at news@afrikeye.com.
