The partnership between the World Health Organization (WHO) and China is set to expand in Cabo Verde following a high-level meeting aimed at identifying new opportunities for collaboration in the country’s health sector.
On May 29, representatives from the WHO team in Cabo Verde met with the Chinese Ambassador to discuss future areas of cooperation and explore ways to strengthen long-term health outcomes for the Cabo Verdean population. The discussions focused on aligning shared priorities and reinforcing support for sustainable healthcare development.
WHO China Cabo Verde Health Cooperation Gains Momentum
The meeting highlighted China’s continued role in supporting health initiatives and emphasized the value of stronger collaboration with WHO in addressing key public health challenges.
Planned activities will support the WHO Cooperation Strategy with Cabo Verde for 2024–2028, which prioritizes sustainable health system strengthening and improved access to quality healthcare services. Both sides also explored opportunities to enhance programs aimed at preventing and controlling noncommunicable diseases, a growing concern that affects a significant portion of the population.
Focus on Sustainable Health System Strengthening
Health experts increasingly recognize that long-term investment in prevention, healthcare infrastructure, and workforce development is essential for improving national health outcomes. The proposed partnership seeks to contribute to these goals by supporting initiatives that can deliver lasting benefits to communities across Cabo Verde.
As part of the next phase, both parties will exchange agreements and establish implementation mechanisms to identify the most effective approaches for future joint projects.
A Step Toward Better Health Outcomes
The meeting marks an important milestone in expanding cooperation between WHO and China in Cabo Verde. By combining technical expertise, resources, and shared health priorities, the partnership aims to strengthen healthcare systems and support better health outcomes for people throughout the country.
