The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos has announced the arrival of its new leader, Mr. Brandon Hudspeth. Taking on his role as the official U.S. Consul General in Lagos, Mr. Hudspeth begins a three-year diplomatic tenure as the senior U.S. government representative across the 17 states of southern Nigeria.
Mr. Hudspeth succeeds former Consul General Rick Swart, who retired from the U.S. Foreign Service in July. This assignment marks a return to Nigeria for Mr. Hudspeth, who previously served as the Political-Economic Section Chief at the consulate from 2020 to 2022.
“I am honored to return to Lagos as the U.S. Consul General in Lagos,” said Mr. Hudspeth. “I know firsthand the strength of the U.S.-Nigeria partnership and the extraordinary energy, ingenuity, and entrepreneurial spirit that Nigerians and Americans share.”
He emphasized his commitment to reconnecting with local partners to expand trade, drive technical innovation, support the creative industries, and promote economic development between both nations.
A career member of the Senior Foreign Service with two decades of diplomatic experience, Mr. Hudspeth most recently served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia. His extensive background includes assignments in the Philippines, Mali, Cuba, and Afghanistan, alongside key roles within the [suspicious link removed] in Washington, D.C.
A native of Texas, he holds degrees from Morehouse College, Harvard Kennedy School, and the National Defense University.
