In operational areas where security forces work to maintain stability, Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) remains an indispensable pillar for building community resilience. A recent KDF CIMIC outreach in the Elwak area vividly demonstrated how addressing immediate humanitarian needs can effectively complement broader security operations, fostering an environment where social and economic activities can thrive.
Personnel from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recently deployed to Sukela Bima Village in the El-Adi Sub-location for a targeted humanitarian intervention. The mission’s primary objective was to support vulnerable residents while fortifying constructive, trust-based relationships with the local community.
Immediate Medical and Humanitarian Relief
During the KDF CIMIC outreach, military healthcare professionals provided free medical consultations and treatments for minor ailments, dispensing essential medications to hundreds of residents. Beyond clinical care, the troops recognized the urgent need for basic sustenance in the arid region, distributing clean drinking water and refreshments to vulnerable families and local schoolchildren.
This dual approach of medical and nutritional support provided immediate relief while actively promoting the long-term health and wellbeing of the community.

Fostering Dialogue and Local Trust
Humanitarian assistance is only one facet of the CIMIC framework. The engagement in Sukela Bima Village also served as a vital platform for open dialogue. KDF personnel sat down with community elders and local leaders to discuss pressing issues affecting daily life. These structured interactions are aligned with international standards for civil-military coordination, similar to frameworks endorsed by United Nations Peacekeeping, and are crucial for maintaining lasting peace and security.
Local leaders expressed deep appreciation for the military’s ongoing support. Principal Chief Hassan Mohamednur Aligab and Headteacher Rashid Maalim Alinoor noted that the improved security environment, bolstered by the KDF CIMIC outreach, has allowed children to attend school without disruption and enabled local businesses to operate normally.
Ultimately, this initiative underscores the immense value of sustained cooperation between security forces and civilian populations. Through continuous KDF CIMIC outreach engagements, troops in Elwak are successfully building local confidence, establishing a secure environment, and ensuring that communities can safely pursue their livelihoods and development aspirations.
