Kenya: Strong Families, Resilient Force
Behind every serving member of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) stands a support system that fuels their resilience and dedication. Recognizing this critical bond, military personnel and their loved ones recently gathered at the Defence Headquarters Camp Administration Unit (DHQ-CAU) for the Roman Catholic Family Day Celebration. The event offered Kenya military families an opportunity to step away from routine military demands, fostering fellowship and strengthening familial relationships.
Spiritual Guidance and Foundation Rt Rev Wallace Ng’ang’a, the Bishop of the Catholic Military Ordinariate of Kenya, led the spiritual guidance for the occasion. Bishop Ng’ang’a emphasized that strong Kenya military families serve as a dependable foundation, giving soldiers the emotional and spiritual strength needed to navigate the unique challenges of military service. He highlighted family unity, faith, and mutual support as core pillars for the overall well-being of the armed forces.
Command Perspective on Family Welfare Major General John Nkoimo, the Deputy Army Commander, attended the event representing the Kenya Army Commander and Roman Catholic Patron, Lieutenant General David Ketter. Major General Nkoimo addressed the central role of Kenya military families in sustaining troop morale, welfare, and operational resilience.
“The strength of our military community is deeply rooted in the strength of our families,” stated Major General Nkoimo. “When families support, encourage, and stand together, they give our personnel the confidence and resilience required to serve with dedication and commitment.”

Recognizing Sacrifices and Biblical Inspiration The celebration formally acknowledged the unseen sacrifices of Kenya military families, who patiently support personnel through deployments, rigorous training commitments, and the unpredictable demands of the military.
Drawing scriptural inspiration from 1 Samuel 26:2, 7–9, 12–13, the congregation reflected on the virtues of a family that serves with respect and generosity. The biblical account of David exercising restraint toward Saul was used to illustrate the importance of self-control, integrity, and respect—values that are essential in nurturing resilient Kenya military families and building a cohesive military force.
A Pillar of Mission Readiness Beyond shared fellowship and spiritual reflection, the DHQ-CAU Roman Catholic Family Day reinforced a fundamental military truth: mission readiness and effectiveness are inextricably linked to the strength of communities at home. By uniting personnel with their loved ones, the celebration affirmed that robust Kenya military families remain the bedrock of personnel welfare, motivation, and national defense.
