Addressing the TRRC Findings
During the launch event, Chargé d’Affaires Robert Anderson emphasized that the Gambia forensic investigation project directly responds to the harrowing findings of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC). Between 1994 and 2017, the country witnessed severe enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.
“The United States is proud to support The Gambia as it strengthens its capacity to pursue justice, establish the facts, and provide answers to families who have waited so long,” Anderson stated. The funding will bolster the Government’s Special Accountability Mechanism, supporting the Special Prosecutor’s Office and the forthcoming ECOWAS-backed Special Tribunal.
