Mr. Temesgen Hagos, Head of Culture and Sports in the Adi-Keih sub-zone, announced the recent discovery of ancient and historical heritage in Der’a, located in the Adi-Keih sub-zone. The findings highlight the region’s significance for historical landmarks in Eritrea and its rich cultural history.
Discoveries Across Agricultural and Construction Sites
The uncovered heritage was found across agricultural lands and construction areas. It includes a variety of artifacts such as seals, amphorae, cups, water containers, rock paintings, and ancient scripts. These findings offer important insights into Eritrea’s ancient civilizations and the historical life of its communities.

Preserving Eritrea’s Ancient Treasures
Local residents emphasized that discovering ancient artifacts in the area is not uncommon. They called for organized historical artifact conservation and systematic collection of these relics to ensure they are preserved and passed down to future generations.
Mr. Temesgen highlighted the importance of exercising caution during construction activities and promptly reporting any discoveries to relevant institutions. This approach will support ongoing ancient ruins exploration and help safeguard Eritrea’s cultural heritage.
