Africa No Filter Council Strengthens African Storytelling

Africa No Filter (ANF) has announced its inaugural Council, marking a major step in reshaping storytelling and changing media perceptions in Africa. This strategic move unites eight distinguished leaders from media, finance, philanthropy, law, advocacy, and research, strengthening governance and expanding the foundation’s influence across the continent. A New Chapter for Africa No Filter

Now an independent, African-led entity registered in Mauritius, ANF transitions from its initial U.S.-based project to a fully autonomous organisation. Executive Director Moky Makura highlighted the importance of this Council:

“Narratives shape everything, from policy and reputation to investment and opportunity. This Council strengthens governance and sharpens our strategic direction. These are people who understand the stakes, believe in Africa’s potential, and are committed to ensuring that Africa tells its own, more truthful story” (Africa No Filter).

The Council Driving Africa No Filter Initiatives

The 2025 Africa No Filter Council brings together leaders with proven expertise in diverse sectors. Their collective experience will support Africa No Filter Council initiatives that amplify African voices and narratives:

  • Nousrath Bhugeloo – Senior executive in financial services and Chairperson at Nexus Global Financial Services.

  • Richard Addy – Co-founder of AKAS, a top international audience strategy consultancy.

  • Ferdinand Mokete – Director at KPMG South Africa and MBA lecturer at Wits Business School.

  • Yacine Djibo – Founder and Executive Director of Speak Up Africa, driving advocacy in health, sanitation, and sustainable development (Global Media Index for Africa).

  • Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard – Founder and Chairman of APO Group, an award-winning pan-African communications consultancy (APO Group Press).

  • Françoise Moudouthe – CEO of the African Women’s Development Fund and founder of Eyala.

  • Natasha Kofoworola Quist – Founder of Quest Advisory Africa, expert in humanitarian work, conservation, and philanthropy.

  • Anshi Saminaden – Senior Legal Counsel at the African Leadership University, specialist in governance and investment management (Bird Africa No Filter Story).

Amplifying the Impact of Narrative Change

Over the last five years, ANF has invested more than US$7.5 million into African storytelling, funding researchers, creative media projects, and platforms that challenge reductive portrayals of Africa. The Council will further strengthen the impact of narrative change in Africa, ensuring that authentic African stories reach global audiences.

Yacine Djibo emphasized:

“The future narrative must reflect reality — a continent of creativity, innovation, and possibility, where African voices define the story and inspire confidence, investment, and ownership both within and beyond Africa.”

Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard added:

“Countering stereotypes is not just ethical; it is strategic. Promoting authentic stories of progress unlocks investment and transforms Africa’s economic prospects.”

Strengthened Governance and Continental Expertise

The Council ensures strong governance, strategic oversight, and African-led decision-making — all critical to sustaining long-term initiatives and ensuring Africa tells its own story. With expanded continental expertise, the foundation is poised to grow its global influence while fostering equitable representation of African narratives.

About Africa No Filter

Africa No Filter is a pan-African advocacy organisation committed to changing media perceptions in Africa. It supports storytelling that reflects the continent’s dynamic progress, innovation, and opportunity. By countering negative stereotypes, ANF empowers Africans to lead the conversation about their own future (Africa No Filter Official).
