Botswana vs DR Congo match stats highlight a decisive Group D encounter at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, with already-eliminated Botswana facing the Democratic Republic of the Congo in their final group fixture.

The match will be played at Stade Al Medina in Rabat on 30 December, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT). While Botswana are playing for pride, DR Congo have progression firmly within reach. This fixture marks a historic moment for Botswana, as it is their first AFCON match against a non–West African opponent, following five previous finals appearances exclusively against West African teams.

Botswana vs DR Congo Match Stats: Head-to-Head Record

This will be the sixth meeting between Botswana and DR Congo across all competitions. Botswana remain winless in open play, while DR Congo have secured two victories, with the remaining three matches ending in draws.

The sides previously met during the 2004 AFCON qualifiers, where DR Congo claimed a 2–0 home win in October 2002. All three drawn encounters — including a friendly in 2005 and the 2016 COSAFA Cup semi-final — finished 0–0. Their most recent clash came in a friendly on 5 June 2017, which DR Congo won 2–0. Notably, Botswana have never scored a goal against DR Congo in five previous matches.

Botswana Key Statistics at AFCON 2025

Botswana have endured a difficult AFCON campaign, losing both group matches without scoring — a 3–0 defeat to Senegal followed by a 1–0 loss to Benin. They have now lost their first five AFCON matches, becoming only the second team after Benin to do so. A defeat here would see Botswana lose their first six AFCON matches.

Despite their struggles, all five of Botswana’s AFCON matches have produced a winner. Against Benin, Botswana attempted 465 passes, completing 383, their highest totals at AFCON 2025. Defender Mosha Gaolaolwe recorded 91 touches, while Thatayaone Ditlhokwe attempted 79 passes, completing 68 — the most by a Botswana player in a single tournament match.

DR Congo Key Statistics at AFCON 2025

DR Congo remain unbeaten in Group D, following a 1–0 win over Benin and a 1–1 draw against Senegal. They are now unbeaten in their last six AFCON group-stage matches.

Striker Cédric Bakambu scored his fourth AFCON goal against Senegal, becoming the fourth-highest scorer for DR Congo at the finals. Defensively, Chancel Mbemba won eight of 11 duels against Senegal, while Axel Tuanzebe registered a game-high 10 clearances.

What’s at Stake in Group D

While Botswana are mathematically eliminated, DR Congo are playing for knockout stage qualification. Matches like this remain vital for tournament narratives and continue to draw strong attention across the continent, forming a key part of ongoing Africa news coverage.
