DAKAR, Senegal, November 12, 2025/APO Group/ – Two senior officials from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) — Dr. Ali Dehghan, Senior Supply Analyst, and Eng. Mohammed Attaba, Senior Downstream Oil Industry Analyst — will speak at the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference, scheduled for December 9–10 in Dakar. The event will be held under the High Patronage of President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye and will focus on renewable energy initiatives, oil and gas investments, and sustainable energy development in West Africa.
OPEC’s Growing Role in West African Energy Development
This year’s MSGBC edition comes at a pivotal time as West Africa experiences a surge in oil and gas investments and explores new sustainable energy projects. OPEC experts will discuss how these sectors can complement renewable energy initiatives to drive long-term growth and regional stability.
Dr. Dehghan, who analyzes global oil supply within OPEC’s Research Division, will share insights into west african oil exploration trends and production forecasts, while Eng. Attaba will address downstream market strategies and refining advancements shaping Africa’s energy future.
Chevron Expands in Guinea-Bissau
Energy major Chevron (https://apo-opa.co/3WSqAhr) recently entered Guinea-Bissau’s offshore market through a landmark deal to operate Blocks 5B and 6B. This move boosts Chevron’s exploration portfolio and strengthens investor confidence in sustainable energy development and oil exploration across the MSGBC basin — which covers Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea-Conakry.
Regional Progress in Oil, Gas, and Power
Senegal achieved a historic milestone with first oil from the Sangomar field (https://apo-opa.co/4nSepMG) in June 2024, producing 100,000 barrels per day. Production forecasts for 2025 have been revised upward to 34.5 million barrels from an earlier 20.53 million.
Mauritania and Senegal have also achieved first gas production from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project, with the first LNG export in April 2025. These achievements mark a major step toward integrating sustainable energy projects and enhancing domestic gas-to-power strategies.
Expanding Energy Partnerships
“The participation of OPEC representatives at the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference reinforces the region’s rising importance in global energy discussions,” said Sandra Jeque, Events and Project Director at Energy Capital & Power. “Their presence underlines how renewable energy initiatives and oil exploration are converging to shape Africa’s energy transformation.”
Meanwhile, exploration activities are intensifying in The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea-Conakry, where new data acquisition campaigns and exploration deals highlight the region’s growing potential for oil and gas investments.
Driving a Balanced Energy Future
OPEC’s engagement with the MSGBC region signals a shared commitment to building a diversified and resilient energy future — one where sustainable energy development and oil production coexist to meet Africa’s growing demand.
