The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is set to take a central role at the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 event, highlighting senegal workforce involvement and regional development initiatives that aim to support the country’s expanding energy sector. The SPE Dakar Section continues to serve as a core technical and professional hub for Senegal’s oil and gas industry, especially in strengthening local expertise and integrating national services into the energy value chain.

Keynote Leaders to Drive Energy Dialogue in Dakar

DAKAR, Senegal, December 1, 2025/APO Group/ —

Dr. Rose Ndong, Chair of the SPE Dakar Section, and Dr. Riverson Oppong, SPE Africa Director, will deliver keynote speeches during the official SPE Workshop on December 8 in Dakar. Their participation reflects the organization’s support for capacity development and technical excellence in West Africa’s energy sector.

As head of SPE Africa, Dr. Oppong manages a regional body connecting thousands of oil and gas professionals with global training, mentorship, and technical development resources. He also serves as CEO of the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies in Ghana, advocating downstream petroleum regulation and industry policy.

Advancing Local Content and Regional Development Initiatives

The SPE Workshop will convene operators, investors, policymakers, and technical leaders to discuss Senegal’s expanding petroleum landscape and regional development initiatives. Sessions will address three key areas: local content in gas infrastructure, management challenges in gas fields, and strategies for production optimization.

Discussions will explore opportunities related to gas-to-power, floating LNG services, pipeline expansion, logistics, and supply chain development—core components tied to local content policy and senegal workforce involvement.

Supporting Africa’s Sustainable Energy Growth

SPE Africa continues to promote capacity building, sustainable technologies, and knowledge exchange across the continent through its technical workshops and industry events.

With Senegal advancing major projects such as the Sangomar oil field and Greater Tortue Ahmeyim gas development, SPE’s involvement reflects support for the country’s natural gas reserves and broader goals of economic transformation. Their keynote insights will address how Senegal can maximize technical talent, build industry capabilities, and drive sustainable industry growth.

Navigating Technical and Commercial Complexities

The workshop will also explore challenges around deepwater operations, infrastructure limitations, market volatility, and balancing LNG exports with domestic energy demand. SPE aims to share approaches that enhance operational efficiency through digitalization, governance transparency, capacity building, and ESG integration across the value chain.

MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 will run from December 8-10 under the theme, Energy, Petroleum and Mining in Africa: Synergy for Inclusive Economic Development.

“SPE’s participation brings unparalleled technical depth and industry insight to this year’s program, supporting stakeholders as Senegal scales up its oil and gas operations. Their leadership in capacity building and knowledge transfer is essential to strengthening local capability and ensuring long-term value creation across the MSGBC sector,” said Sandra Jeque, Events and Project Director, Energy Capital & Power.
