The upcoming AI Innovation Event Cape Town is set to spotlight the rapid growth of AI development in Africa, as OpenAI teams up with 22 On Sloane to host the groundbreaking forum on November 10, 2025. The event will gather top policymakers, entrepreneurs, and innovators to explore how artificial intelligence is driving sustainable economic growth and reshaping Africa’s technological future.

OpenAI and 22 On Sloane Unite for Africa’s AI Future

Emmanuel Lubanzadio, Africa Lead at OpenAI, announced the collaboration via LinkedIn, describing it as an effort “to bring together innovators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to explore how Artificial Intelligence is creating new opportunities for growth and innovation across Africa.” The forum, hosted at the 22 On Sloane Hub in Cape Town, will serve as a platform to discuss South Africa AI trends, digital innovation, and the integration of AI into public and private sectors.

OpenAI, the San Francisco-based company behind ChatGPT, continues to deepen its footprint in Africa. Meanwhile, 22 On Sloane—Africa’s largest startup campus—has long supported entrepreneurs through mentorship, funding, and policy engagement, fostering an ecosystem where AI solutions can thrive.

Forum to Feature Policymakers, Startups, and Industry Experts

The AI Innovation Event Cape Town will feature panel discussions, startup showcases, and keynote speeches from influential leaders. Hon. Solly Malatsi, Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, will deliver the opening keynote, “How AI Can Enhance Government’s Capacity to Deliver Services to Its Citizens.”

Lubanzadio, co-leading the event with Kizito Okechukwu of 22 On Sloane, stated that the session will offer “engaging dialogues on AI’s role in innovation, keynotes and insights from thought leaders, and start-ups showcasing real-world AI impact.” The focus will include how AI development in Africa can boost education, governance, and entrepreneurship.

Strengthening Africa’s AI Ecosystem

The forum marks a key milestone in OpenAI’s broader engagement across Africa, emphasizing sustainable digital transformation. Lubanzadio, who previously held roles at Twitter, the United Nations, and GIZ, aims to enhance partnerships between African governments, SMEs, and technology hubs. The goal is to unlock innovation that benefits both communities and industries.

He added, “We’re honored that Hon. Solly Malatsi will open the forum, highlighting how governments can leverage AI to improve citizen services and foster long-term development.”

Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore Cape Town’s scenic attractions while networking with AI professionals and innovators from across the continent. Those planning to attend can easily book their travel arrangements through AfrikEye Travel.
