President Isaias Afwerki has returned to Asmara after concluding a successful five-day visit to Egypt, marking another milestone in Eritrea-Egypt cooperation and regional diplomatic engagement.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During his stay in Cairo, President Isaias Afwerki held in-depth discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The two leaders emphasized the importance of bolstering Eritrea bilateral relations through strategic partnerships in trade, security, and regional development. Their dialogue focused particularly on maintaining peace and security in the Red Sea, an area of shared strategic interest for both nations.

Participation in Egypt’s Historic Museum Inauguration

As part of his visit, President Afwerki attended the grand inauguration ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which brought together representatives from 79 nations, including 39 heads of state and government. His participation underscored Eritrea’s commitment to fostering diplomatic and cultural ties across Africa and the Middle East.

Call for Regional Peace and Cooperation

President Afwerki reiterated his stance on the need for neighboring countries to collaborate in promoting stability and countering harmful foreign interference. In an interview with Cairo News Television, he reflected on the deep historical roots connecting Eritrea and Egypt and reaffirmed both nations’ aligned views on regional and global affairs.

Delegation and Next Steps

Accompanying the president was Mr. Osman Saleh, Eritrea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, who emphasized that the visit sets a positive tone for future cooperation and development initiatives between Asmara and Cairo.
