Home favourite Robert MacIntyre Dunhill Links victory brought joy to Scottish fans as he became the first Scottish golfer to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in two decades. The 29-year-old clinched the title after an impressive final round at St Andrews, finishing 18 under par.
Scottish Golfer Wins Title After Ryder Cup Glory
Just a week after helping Europe triumph in the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, MacIntyre returned home to lift another major trophy — the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Despite strong winds and tough weather caused by Storm Amy, the event concluded after 54 holes.
MacIntyre shot a superb 66 in the final round, keeping his composure through challenging conditions. “It’s a beautiful end to a good week,” he said. “I only arrived on Wednesday and somehow, everything just clicked. Sometimes, when you least expect it, things happen.”
The Scotsman’s performance marked his fourth European Tour win. His Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton finished second at 14 under, four shots behind, while Richard Sterne of South Africa and England’s John Parry tied for third at 13 under.
MacIntyre Ends Scotland’s 20-Year Wait
MacIntyre’s win is historic — the first Scottish golfer to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship since Colin Montgomerie lifted the title in 2005. Having already won the Scottish Open last year, MacIntyre continues to cement his place among modern golf greats.
He added humorously, “The diet hasn’t been great this week — fish and chips, a few takeaways — but somehow it worked!”
His precise approach shots, especially from the rough on the 13th hole, proved decisive. A bogey on the 17th and a missed birdie on the 18th couldn’t stop him from sealing a well-deserved win at the Home of Golf.
