Rain and wind warnings have eased across Britain as Storm Benjamin impact UK begins to lessen, with the weather system now moving eastward toward mainland Europe. The storm, named by France’s Météo France, caused heavy rainfall, strong winds, and power outages across parts of England and Wales early Thursday.

Storm Benjamin Location Update

According to the Met Office, storm Benjamin location update shows the system passing through the English Channel before shifting east. Gusts reached nearly 100mph along France’s northern coast, while eastern England still experiences wind speeds of up to 55mph — enough to disrupt ferry routes and transport.

Currently, only two yellow weather warnings remain in place: one for rain across Norfolk and Suffolk until 18:00 BST, and one for wind along eastern England until 15:00 BST. Localized flooding remains possible in low-lying areas.

Rain and Wind Forecast UK

The rain and wind forecast UK indicates continued gusty conditions along the east coast, though the strongest winds have now moved offshore toward Belgium and the Netherlands. Southeastern England saw up to 50mm (2 inches) of rain, making it one of the wettest areas affected.

More than 2,000 homes in Suffolk lost power, while train services between Watford Junction and London Euston were temporarily suspended due to fallen trees on the tracks. Despite improving conditions, travelers are advised to monitor updates from transport authorities and plan alternate routes via this travel platform.

Why Storm Benjamin Was Named

Although the UK Met Office did not name this storm, France’s Météo France issued orange-level warnings for several Atlantic and Channel regions due to its severity. Once named by one European meteorological agency, the name is shared across the continent for consistency in communication and safety alerts.

Western Europe Still at Risk

Western Europe, including France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, continues to face heavy rain and winds as storm Benjamin impact UK shifts further east. Sporting events such as Feyenoord vs. Panathinaikos and AZ Alkmaar vs. ŠK Slovan Bratislava have had kickoff times moved earlier due to worsening weather.
