Zambian Youth Showcase Excellence at the 2026 Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition
The capital city of Lusaka recently became a vibrant hub of cultural exchange as the Zambia Finals of the 25th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign University Students and the 19th edition for Secondary School Students concluded successfully. Attended by diplomats, educators, and local community leaders, the high-profile event highlighted the growing linguistic ties between China and Zambia. As economic cooperation between the two nations reaches new heights, mastery of Mandarin is increasingly recognized as a powerful gateway to global business opportunities and cross-border collaboration across the continent.
Fostering Cross-Cultural Dialogue and Diplomatic Ties
The event coincided with the International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations, adding deep symbolic weight to the competition. Grand attendees at the Lusaka finals viewed a special video address from China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, who detailed four foundational propositions for international harmony: mutual respect, putting people first, balancing heritage with technological innovation, and expanding dialogue mechanisms between cultures.
Counsellor Wang Li of the Chinese Embassy in Zambia addressed the assembly, emphasizing how Mandarin has evolved into a global lingua franca that beautifully bridges historical tradition with modern tech ecosystems. As an all-weather ally, China remains deeply invested in Zambia’s infrastructure and socioeconomic development, providing local graduates with high-value jobs and technical training. By mastering the language, young Zambians are uniquely positioned to navigate regional politics and capitalize on bilateral investments.
Brilliant Performances Highlight the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition
The national finals brought together 18 exceptional finalists who cleared grueling preliminary rounds across the country. According to official event coverage from Xinhua News, the contestants enthralled the audience of over 210 people with diverse performances ranging from expressive speeches and traditional singing to dynamic martial arts and classical Chinese dance.
After intense evaluation, Ms. Margret Banda from the University of Zambia (UNZA) claimed the first prize in the university category. Meanwhile, Ms. Musonda Rosemary from Kasama Girls’ Secondary School secured the top spot for the secondary school division. Both winners expressed that learning Mandarin was inspired by the expanding footprint of Chinese enterprise in Africa, providing them with a clear path toward international travel and prestigious academic scholarships.
Mundia Muya, Vice Chancellor of UNZA—where the local Confucius Institute is based—highly praised the linguistic progress of the students. In popular opinion forums and education AMA circles, experts note that such cultural initiatives do more than teach grammar; they foster deep empathy and bilateral alignment. The integration of modern learning platforms and AI-assisted pronunciation tools is further accelerating language acquisition. As these young cultural ambassadors prepare for global finals, their achievements stand as a testament to how education can transcend physical borders, enrich community health, and inspire collaborative excellence in youth sports and arts alike.
