The ECOWAS Headquarters construction progress is nearing its final stages, with the project now at approximately 85% completion. During a site visit on 11 November 2025, ECOWAS Commission Vice President Her Excellency Damtien L. Tchintchibidja urged contractors to intensify efforts and complete the remaining works swiftly. The visit included technical officials from the Directorates of Transport and Administration & General Services, along with representatives from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, the project’s primary financier.

Regional Institutions Development Gains Momentum

During the inspection, the Vice President acknowledged Nigeria’s significant contributions to supporting regional institutions development. She commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for advancing ecowas commission projects, including the construction of facilities for the ECOWAS Parliament and the Community Court of Justice.

The delegation received a detailed update on construction timelines and outstanding issues requiring quick intervention before the complex becomes fully operational. While heavy rainfall and site-related complications caused earlier delays—especially in external works—the contractor has increased the workforce to meet the revised delivery schedule.

West African Infrastructure Progress Strengthens ECOWAS Objectives

As part of ongoing west african infrastructure progress, the Vice President appealed to the Federal Government and the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority to accelerate the delivery of essential utilities. These include the access road, water and sewage systems, electricity supply, and telecommunications infrastructure—critical components for the headquarters’ full functionality.

She emphasised that prompt action on surrounding infrastructure will support ECOWAS’s long-term vision of strengthening regional integration through modern, efficient, and resilient ecowas commission projects.
