Evacuation Operation Details: Al-Majd Europe Response in Palestinians Relocation

A chartered flight carrying 153 Palestinians from Gaza landed near Johannesburg, South Africa, on Thursday morning, sparking concern among local authorities. Many passengers lacked proper travel documents, leaving South African officials initially “blindsided.” After nearly 12 hours of scrutiny, the evacuees were placed under the care of the charity organisation Gift of the Givers.

Al-Majd Europe and Controversial Relocation

The evacuation was organised by Al-Majd Europe, a group claiming to coordinate evacuations from conflict zones. Activists have argued that the initiative is linked to Israel’s efforts to remove Palestinians from Gaza. Passengers reportedly paid between $1,400 and $2,000 each for the trip.

The Palestinian ambassador to South Africa, Hanan Jarrar, met with evacuees upon arrival, highlighting concerns about the irregular nature of the operation. The passengers had limited information about their destination and were allowed only minimal belongings.Al Jazeera

Flight and Transit Details

Passengers were transported from southern Gaza’s Rafah to the Karem Abu Salem crossing, then to Israel’s Ramon airport without exit stamps. The group flew on a Romanian chartered plane via Nairobi before landing in Johannesburg. South African authorities later reported that 23 Palestinians continued on to other countries.

Background on Al-Majd Europe

Al-Majd Europe, founded in 2010 in Germany, is led by dual Israeli-Estonian national Tomer Janar Lind. Reports suggest Lind previously worked with an Israeli military unit facilitating the forced transfer of Palestinians from Gaza. The organisation’s website offers minimal contact information, and many of its advertised stories appear unverifiable.

Palestinian Authority Response

The Palestinian embassy in South Africa called the operation “misleading” and warned that the group exploited humanitarian conditions in Gaza. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs cautioned Palestinians against networks that facilitate relocation in line with Israeli interests.Al Jazeera

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa stated that the situation “does seem like they were being flushed out” of Gaza, and the country’s intelligence services are investigating.
