ExecuJet Boosts Aircraft Services in South Africa with Advanced ADS-B Upgrades
ExecuJet MRO Services in Johannesburg is now installing automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) systems in business jets, helping operators comply with the latest South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) regulations. The upgrades are being fitted on Bombardier, Learjet, Embraer, Hawker, and Beechcraft aircraft, delivering significant jet performance improvements and safety enhancements.
ADS-B Mandate: What Aircraft Owners Need to Know
All aircraft flying in South African airspace are required to have ADS-B/Mode S 1090-MHz extended squitter transponders. The mandate, announced last year, became effective in Class A airspace from June 12, 2025.
Beyond South Africa, 17 African states within the ASECNA air traffic management agency also follow ADS-B rules. These include Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Togo.
Scheduling Upgrades for Smooth Operations
Vince Goncalves, ExecuJet MRO Services’ Regional VP for Africa, recommends scheduling ADS-B upgrades well in advance. “Early bookings help secure maintenance slots and reduce aircraft downtime. Operators with valid applications and confirmed purchase orders may qualify for three to six-month extensions,” he explained.
Advanced Avionics and Costs
At the Lanseria Airport (FALA) facility, installations may include DO-260B-compliant transponders and GPS upgrades for wide area augmentation capability. Depending on aircraft type and avionics configuration, upgrades range from $150,000 to $370,000.
“Our team specializes in luxury aircraft customization and complex avionic upgrades,” Goncalves added. “As authorized dealers for leading global avionics manufacturers, we ensure business jet owners receive state-of-the-art solutions that meet international standards.”

ExecuJet, fully owned by Dassault Aviation, provides airframe, engine, and avionics maintenance for a wide range of business jets, including Dassault, Bombardier, Embraer, and Gulfstream models.
