Fintech Partnership Expands Digital Voucher Solutions in South Africa

South Africa’s financial technology sector continues to grow as Pay@ and OTT Voucher join forces to expand digital voucher solutions and drive financial inclusion. Their collaboration is designed to bridge the gap between cash-based transactions and digital payments, opening new partnership opportunities for businesses and consumers alike.

Bridging the Cash-to-Digital Divide

Although 49% of adults in sub-Saharan Africa now have a bank account, millions of South Africans remain unbanked or underbanked. According to Lani van der Merwe, Payment Network Manager at Pay@, “Despite South Africa’s relatively high bank account penetration, nearly four million citizens remain excluded from full financial access.” The rise of cybercrime has further underscored the need for secure, cardless payment options.

In this environment, voucher payments have emerged as a flexible and secure alternative. They cater to both cash users and digital consumers, enabling safer transactions without requiring traditional bank accounts. “Voucher payments are a strategic tool for financial inclusion,” van der Merwe adds, highlighting their role in expanding secure access to the digital economy.

Pay@ and OTT Voucher: A Strong Example of Collaborative Financial Services

The partnership between Pay@ and OTT Voucher represents a significant step toward collaborative financial services that promote empowerment through secure and inclusive digital tools. OTT Voucher offers a cardless digital cash platform that converts cash into single-use digital codes for online payments — a seamless bridge between cash and digital commerce.

This innovative partnership improves payment convenience and expands the market reach of participating businesses by connecting them with previously unbanked consumers. As Clare Parker, Head of Marketing at OTT, explains, “Financial inclusion begins with choice. OTT Vouchers allow people to safely participate in online transactions without worrying about card fraud.”

These vouchers are available nationwide through major retailers like Shoprite, Pick n Pay, and Boxer, as well as via leading banking apps. With this broad accessibility, customers can buy and use vouchers wherever they shop, bank, or refuel — making digital voucher solutions part of everyday financial life.

Transforming South Africa’s Fintech Landscape

Since the August launch, Pay@ has reported thousands of monthly transactions using OTT Vouchers, showing strong adoption rates. The company’s existing collaboration with 1Voucher also demonstrates how partnership opportunities in fintech are transforming South Africa’s payment ecosystem. Together, these initiatives are redefining how consumers and businesses approach digital transactions — blending convenience, security, and financial empowerment.

By building an ecosystem centered on inclusion, innovation, and collaboration, Pay@ and OTT Voucher are setting new standards for collaborative financial services in Africa. Their partnership proves that when fintech meets local needs, digital transformation can reach even the most underserved communities.
