Zimbabwe will host a first-of-its-kind capital markets forum this August, uniting domestic capital powerhouses and private sector investors. Organised by API Events, the forum coincides with a period of historic significance for the country’s financial landscape.
Co-located with the 6th Annual ZimReal Property Forum, the Zimbabwe Future Capital Forum (ZFCF) is the first deal-focused event bringing institutional capital and bankable assets under one roof. Together, the co-located events expect over 400 delegates from more than 100 companies.
Major domestic stakeholders are backing the initiative, including the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency, the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE), and the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX).
Aligning with watershed reforms
The launch arrives amid a revitalized investment climate driven by recent regulatory amendments, including:
- Eased listing requirements
- Structural shifts toward yield-oriented real assets
- The institutionalization of Green, Social, and Sustainability Bonds
- The 2026 promulgation of Statutory Instruments 62 and 63 for the Victoria Falls trading architecture
“Zimbabwe’s capital markets have just been through arguably their most significant reset in a generation,” says Murray Anderson, Commercial Director at API Events. “The capital exists and the products are finally here; this forum is where they meet.”
The combined value of the ZSE and VFEX now exceeds US$7 billion. The hard-currency VFEX has scaled quickly to roughly US$3.8 billion, propelled by Econet InfraCo’s US$1 billion listing in March, while the ZSE anchors the market at around US$3.4 billion.
Bridging capital and bankability
According to the Insurance and Pensions Commission (IPEC), Zimbabwe’s pension sector held approximately US$2.63 billion in assets at mid-2025. However, experts note that the primary hurdle is not a lack of liquidity, but a bankability challenge.
“Zimbabwe does not have a capital shortage; it has a bankability challenge,” said Benerdict Chisale, General Manager of the Investor Hosting Centre. “The winners in this new era will be those who can structure investable opportunities that inspire investor confidence across Africa.”
Meanwhile, listed real estate investment trusts (REITs) like Tigere and the Pfuma Fund have pushed past US$100 million in market capitalization, highlighting growing institutional demand for dollar-denominated, yield-generating assets.
