Phase II of Vilaz Pozitivite Brings New Homes to Eight Families in Pointe Larue

A significant milestone in the national push for broader property ownership was reached this Friday at Anse Francois, where eight families officially became homeowners. The inauguration of the second phase of the affordable housing project in Pointe Larue marks a major step forward in delivering on the promises of President Dr Patrick Herminie to accelerate residential development across the nation.

The handover ceremony brought together key government figures and the local community. Vice-President Sebastien Pillay, who heads the Lands and Housing portfolio, joined the President to present the keys to the new beneficiaries. They were accompanied by Joseph Francois, Secretary of State for Lands, Housing and Infrastructure, alongside Honorable Conrad Gabriel, the Member of the National Assembly for Pointe Larue, and various district administrators.

This latest development features a single residential block containing eight spacious three-bedroom apartments. It follows the successful rollout of Phase One, which welcomed its residents in September 2025.

During his address, Vice-President Pillay emphasized the government’s dedication to refining its construction standards. Acknowledging feedback from Phase One residents regarding issues with drainage, exposed cables, and bathroom tiling, he assured the public that corrective measures were swiftly implemented. These crucial lessons were integrated directly into the planning of Phase Two, ensuring superior build quality and preventing recurring infrastructural challenges.

The financial commitment to Phase Two highlights a substantial national investment

, totaling SCR 14.1 million. The construction of the housing block itself accounted for SCR 6.75 million, handled by O-Nivo Construction between August 2023 and July 2026. A larger portion of the budget—SCR 7.35 million—was dedicated to essential external infrastructure, including robust retaining walls, advanced sewerage connections, and dedicated parking. Vice-President Pillay stressed that the government heavily subsidized these units and completely absorbed the infrastructure costs to protect families from financial strain, a benefit retroactively applied to Phase One homeowners as well.

Looking to the future, the housing momentum in Pointe Larue and nearby districts shows no signs of slowing down. The Vice-President detailed upcoming initiatives, including a 28-unit Mid-Range Condominium near the local Airtel facility aimed at young professionals, slated to begin before year’s end. An additional 30-unit condominium project above Anonyme View Estate is currently in the discussion phase for early next year, alongside the ongoing seven-house redevelopment at Nageon Estate.

On a broader scale, the national housing pipeline remains highly active. Currently, over 430 residential units are under construction in districts spanning from La Digue and Grand Anse Praslin to Anse Etoile and Beoliere. This massive undertaking does not even include the separate mid-range condominium developments actively being drafted.

Closing the event, officials urged the new residents to live up to the name of their community. Honorable Conrad Gabriel described the handover as a fresh chapter, calling on the families to foster a neighborhood rooted in unity and respect. Echoing this sentiment, Petra Laporte delivered the vote of thanks, celebrating the collaborative effort that transformed these housing dreams into a tangible reality for the people of Seychelles.
