Seychelles President Honors Kyokushin Karate Star Samuel Fanny for Global Achievement
The nation is celebrating a monumental athletic milestone as two-time World Champion Samuel Fanny received a formal presidential commendation following his stellar performance on the global stage. President Dr. Patrick Herminie warmly welcomed the martial arts prodigy to State House, alongside his dedicated coach and 8th Dan practitioner, Philip Moustache, to formally honor Fanny’s recent international success.
During the high-profile courtesy call, President Herminie expressed immense pride in Fanny, who recently secured the runner-up position for the World Champion title at the Kyokushin Karate (Kata) tournament held in Kazakhstan. The President emphasized that Fanny’s ability to fly the Seychelles flag so prominently serves as a powerful testament to the value of youth sports.
“I am proud when I see young Seychellois pursuing sports,” President Herminie remarked during the gathering. He underscored that athletics provide an essential framework for instilling discipline and perseverance in the next generation, transforming dedicated young citizens into true inspirations for their peers.
The meeting also served as a tribute to Philip Moustache’s lifelong dedication to martial arts. Marking an impressive 51 years since he first began practicing the rigorous discipline at the age of 19, the veteran coach credited his enduring career to unwavering determination and focus. This long-standing commitment aligns seamlessly with the broader vision of fostering resilient athletic talent across the nation.
Looking ahead, the government reaffirmed its steadfast dedication to expanding opportunities for local competitors. This includes continued investments in the sports administration and infrastructure necessary to elevate young athletes to the international level. Showing support for this ongoing strategic vision, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council (NSC), Mario Pragassen, was also in attendance.
Fanny, who has rapidly climbed the martial arts ranks over the past four years of active practice, remains highly focused on his upcoming challenges. He is currently undergoing rigorous preparation for a major local tournament scheduled for September, while keeping his sights firmly set on conquering future international championships.
