Liberia has taken a major step toward strengthening its digital defenses with the launch of a cybersecurity competition and awareness campaign under the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, in collaboration with Starz University. The 24-hour “Capture The Flag” (CTF) hackathon aims to enhance tech security education and provide real-world experience to young Liberians in cybersecurity.

Boosting Tech Security Education Through Hands-On Training

The initiative is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical digital defense. Participants will face challenges that mirror real-world cyberattacks—testing skills in ethical hacking, encryption, cyber forensics, and threat response. This approach helps build a strong foundation in tech security education while nurturing teamwork and innovation among students.

Starz University’s Role in Strengthening Cyber Skills

As part of the university cybersecurity program, Starz University—one of Liberia’s leading technology institutions—will host the event at its campus. The hackathon will feature continuous 24-hour activities, bringing together students, professionals, and cyber enthusiasts. Participants will also learn from global cybersecurity experts through workshops covering risk management and digital defense strategies.

Promoting Youth Empowerment and National Cyber Resilience

According to the Ministry, this 24-hour CTF Hackathon underscores Liberia’s commitment to developing a digitally secure and inclusive future. It aligns with the country’s broader vision of building cyber resilience through innovation and education. The cybersecurity competition is not only a learning opportunity but also a platform for mentorship, recognition, and national digital empowerment.

“We’re preparing Liberia’s youth to lead in cybersecurity and digital innovation,” a ministry spokesperson said. “This event is a key step toward enhancing national security and promoting global best practices.”

Building the Next Generation of Cyber Leaders

The collaboration between the Ministry and Starz University highlights how education and competition can drive skill development. By merging innovation with learning, Liberia aims to position itself as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation and secure technology future.
