The Ministry of Information, Eritrea, has launched an extensive training program focused on film, drama, and stage lighting techniques to empower young creatives in the Southern Region. A total of 37 youth participants, selected from 12 sub-zones, received both theoretical and practical instruction designed to strengthen their professional skills and foster cultural innovation.

Building Creative Skills Through Workforce Development Workshops

Mr. Abraham Yohannes, Director General of Culture and Sports, stated that the initiative aims to build the technical and creative capacity of Eritrean youth through workforce development workshops. The training sessions in Dekemhare included modules on film and drama production, story development, directing, casting, and the use of modern stage lighting techniques in live performances.

Expanding Training to Technical and Artistic Fields

In addition to the arts program, vocational courses were provided to 208 participants — with women making up 57% — across five administrative areas in the sub-zone. These courses covered electronics, painting, and advanced lighting workshops for stage, promoting both creative and technical skill-building for employment generation.

Mr. Habteab Tesfatsion, Governor of the region, praised the program’s impact and reaffirmed the administration’s support for future workshops aimed at enhancing youth employability. Similarly, Mr. Filmon Mesfun of the National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students encouraged graduates to use their new skills to create sustainable livelihoods and contribute to the region’s economic growth.

The training’s success underscores Eritrea’s commitment to nurturing talent through workforce development workshops that merge creativity, technology, and cultural heritage. Participants were also urged by Mr. Yemane Abera, sub-zone administrator, to convert their newly gained abilities into income-generating ventures that boost local economies.
