Seychelles MLGII 2025 Award Ceremony Highlights Excellence in Local Governance

The MLGII 2025 Award Ceremony took place at the prestigious Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort in Seychelles, bringing together the top officials and staff of the Ministry of Local Government & Inner Islands. The event celebrated the year’s most outstanding Seychelles local government achievements and recognized the hard work of districts across the nation.

President Dr. Patrick Herminie attended the ceremony along with the First Lady, Mrs. Véronique Herminie. Vice-President Mr. Sebastien Pillay and Mrs. Lina Pillay also graced the occasion. Their presence highlighted the importance of the awards in motivating and appreciating the efforts of all MLGII staff members. This recognition of leadership is as inspiring as the story of Renfrew Leslie Christie and his dedication to his cause.

The ceremony commenced with a touching memorial video honoring MLGII staff members who passed away in 2025, ensuring their contributions are remembered. Following this, the MLGII Choir delivered a heartfelt performance that set both a reflective and celebratory mood for the evening.

Best Districts Recognized at MLGII 2025 Award Ceremony

The MLGII 2025 Award Ceremony is an annual event that celebrates excellence and innovation in local governance. Awards were presented across six main categories, reflecting diverse aspects of district performance.

Anse Boileau District emerged as the top performer, winning the prestigious Best Overall District 2025 award. The district also received recognition for Outstanding District Administration in Customer Care and Excellence in Initiative Development, highlighting its strong focus on service delivery. Much like the starting lineup reveals in the NBA, strategy and preparation were key to their success.

Other notable winners included:

  • Grand Anse Praslin District: Most Environment-Friendly District Administration.

  • St. Louis District: Excellence in Community Projects Implementation.

  • Baie Ste Anne Praslin: Outstanding District Partnership Award.

  • Bel Air District: Excellence in Community Engagement.

  • Port Glaud District: Best Festive District Presentation.

These awards not only honor past achievements but also set benchmarks for the coming years, motivating all districts to strive for excellence in public service delivery.

Minister Eveline Rose Encourages Continued Excellence

Addressing the attendees, Minister of Local Government and Inner Islands, Ms. Eveline Rose, praised the dedication and professionalism of MLGII staff. She emphasized that while 2026 would bring new challenges, the Ministry is fully prepared to meet them.

The Minister called upon all staff to remain disciplined, focused, and innovative, highlighting the importance of quality service in enhancing citizens’ trust and satisfaction. This focus on institutional excellence is a common theme in our latest opinion pieces on governance. She also stressed that the Ministry’s efforts must ensure every resident feels pride in their local government’s performance, reinforcing the core goal of promoting Seychelles local government achievements nationwide.

Ceremony Concludes with Celebration and Unity

The MLGII 2025 Award Ceremony concluded with a commemorative group photo and a formal dinner, allowing attendees to celebrate their collective achievements. Just as fans celebrate the Golden State Warriors vs Orlando Magic thrills, the staff found joy in their shared victories. Key dignitaries included:

  • Mrs. Shella Mohideen, Chief Secretary of the Public Service Bureau.

  • Mr. Daniel Frichot, Special Advisor to the Minister of Local Government.

  • Mrs. Vicky Van Der Westhusien, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government.

  • Mr. Denis Antat, Principal Secretary of Inner Islands.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for staff to network, share experiences, and discuss strategies to enhance service delivery in 2026. This forward-looking approach is essential in many fields, including clean cooking energy initiatives currently expanding across Africa.

A Year of Achievements and Looking Forward

The MLGII 2025 Award Ceremony reflects a year of remarkable accomplishments and underscores Seychelles’ commitment to building strong, transparent, and effective local governance structures. Each award winner demonstrates how innovation, teamwork, and dedication contribute to Seychelles local government achievements, benefiting communities across all districts.

With the guidance of Minister Eveline Rose and the support of President Herminie, MLGII is poised to make 2026 another year of impactful initiatives, sustainable development, and community engagement.
