Pakistan vs South Africa Test Series continues with high anticipation in Rawalpindi, as Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first in the second Test against a strengthened South African squad featuring the return of spinner Keshav Maharaj.

Toss Result: Pakistan Chooses to Bat First Again

In a critical moment for the Pakistan vs South Africa Test series, skipper Shan Masood won his second consecutive toss and opted to bat first, citing the dry pitch conditions at Pindi Cricket Stadium.

“The pitch is a bit on the dry side, so better to bat first,” Masood said confidently, aiming to build a strong total to pressurize the South African side, which is determined to level the series.

Keshav Maharaj Returns in Test Cricket After Injury

A major boost for South Africa is the return of experienced left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj, who was sidelined in the first Test due to a groin injury. His inclusion, along with that of seaming all-rounder Marco Jansen, highlights South Africa’s strategic shift after their 93-run loss in Lahore.

Maharaj replaced Prenelan Subrayen, while Jansen took over from Wiaan Mulder, who underperformed with both bat and ball in the opening game.

South African captain Aiden Markram acknowledged the need for changes, saying his team had learned “a couple of lessons” from the previous defeat.

Pakistan’s Strategic Shift: Asif Afridi Debuts

Responding to the spin-friendly nature of the pitch, Pakistan brought in a third specialist spinner—38-year-old Asif Afridi—who replaced Hasan Ali and made his Test debut. With Afridi’s inclusion, Pakistan aims to capitalize on the expected turn and bounce on offer.

Pakistan currently leads the two-match series 1-0 and is eyeing a clean sweep. The team’s decision to bat first after winning the toss result Pakistan vs South Africa highlights their confidence in adapting to the pitch conditions and setting a challenging target for the visitors.

Full Team Line-ups

Pakistan Playing XI:
Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Shan Masood (captain), Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, Noman Ali, Sajid Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Asif Afridi

South Africa Playing XI:
Aiden Markram (captain), Ryan Rickelton, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Senuran Muthusamy, Simon Harmer, Kagiso Rabada
