Djibouti is hosting the 16th edition of the African digital economy forum, a major gathering focused on accelerating the African tech revolution and strengthening digital transformation in Africa to boost regional commerce.

The event opened yesterday in Djibouti City and was chaired by Minister of Commerce and Tourism Mohamed Warsame Diriyeh. Delegations from multiple African governments — along with private sector leaders — are participating, according to Djibouti’s national news agency.

Boosting Innovation and Intra-African Digital Trade

This year’s theme, “Harnessing the Digital Economy and Innovation to Boost Intra-African Trade and Sustainable Development”, highlights the infrastructure, training, and investment required to support the continent’s digital transition.

President of the Djibouti Chamber of Commerce, Youssouf Moussa Dawaleh, described the digital economy as a key driver of a rising Africa and encouraged greater private-sector engagement to support African digital trade growth.

Calls for Stronger Partnerships

Minister Diriyeh echoed this appeal, urging participants to build meaningful partnerships that can convert digital innovation into economic opportunity across the continent.

“This forum is a unique platform to strengthen the economic ties between African countries,” he said.

High-Level Panels on Africa’s Tech Future

The three-day forum includes a series of high-level discussions on the competitiveness of Africa’s private sector, the opportunities emerging from digital expansion, and the growing role of technology in shaping Africa’s tech future.
