Huawei’s Optical Transmission President Gavin Gu highlighted that integrating latest network technologies like 400G/800G coherent optics and OXC switching has built a solid F5.5G foundation. “We’re proud to innovate alongside MTN to boost regional ICT capacity and move Africa closer to the intelligent world,” he added.
Technical Milestones
The project achieved two significant breakthroughs:
- The first activation of L0 + L1 ASON (Optical and Electrical switching) on Nigeria’s DWDM backbone.
- The first single-wavelength 800G optical channel deployment in West Africa.
These advancements showcase Huawei’s leadership in high-speed optical transport, enabling scalable, cost-efficient, and intelligent broadband infrastructure.
